Senior Operations and Support Engineer Description

We are looking for a Senior Operations and Support Engineer to manage applications and production environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage Ovid/LWW proprietary applications and production environments
  • Take ownership of the day-to-day customer, application and system incidents/problems as detected by monitoring or as escalated by Customer Service and Technical Support (L1 and L2 support)
  • Work closely with system architecture leads to measure and improve the reliability and performance of customer-facing application environments
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of the proprietary application and environment problems
  • Improve operations of our mixed Unix/Linux, Windows and Cloud environments
  • Work with system architecture leads, Software Development, Content Development/Production, Quality Assurance, Release Management and others
  • Document everything: every newly acquired piece of knowledge about Product/Processes/Technologies relevant to Operations Team duties is documented and shared within the Operations team
  • Participate in 24/7 rotation for after-hours and weekend support

What You Have

  • Expert-level knowledge and at least 3 years of extensive hands-on experience with Linux and 1 year with Windows
  • 2+ years’ experience as a system administrator in a mixed Windows/Unix/Cloud enterprise environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Expertise in F5 or other load balancers
  • Ability to administer and deploy Apache, Tomcat, Perl, WebLogic and Unix shell as well as windows PowerShell scripting
  • Experience in implementing high-uptime MS Windows and Unix/Linux environments
  • Solid scripting and programming skills: automation and monitoring within MS Windows/mixed environments
  • Demonstrated ability to support enterprise-class systems and applications with strict uptime requirements
  • Strong background in Internet-related technologies: TCP/IP networking; core protocols (http, ftp, SMTP, etc.); applications (e.g. Apache)
  • Ability and intention to work with compliance to processes (Transition and Operation ITIL domains)
  • Willingness to learn and use cutting edge DevOps Tools (Rundeck, Chef)
  • Intention to write comprehensive documents, and share knowledge within the team
