MS SQL Engineer

Currently we are looking for a MS SQL Engineer for our Prague office to make the team even stronger and work on an Investment Bank project.

Our customer is embarking on a multi-year transformation program to upgrade and deliver a strategic reporting platform for the firm. This will be a key pillar of the technology platform and will form part of the overall infrastructure strategy.

Technology is a key enabler within the program, and spans across 8 internal business groups as well as the central IT function. Key to the success of delivering our Liquidity and broader treasury reporting platform is a strategy, robust architecture and technology framework to support all of the required data across the firm.

We expect the ideal candidate to demonstrate flexibility, versatility and an ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities to completion without significant guidance.


  • Establish reporting to the regulators on the project;
  • Implement tactical technical enhancements to solutions for improving the process;
  • Be responsible for decommission of interim solutions and platforms in-line with the build out of the strategic architecture;
  • Liaise with the Design Authority and IT teams in other regions to ensure that all new components fit within guiding principles;
  • Follow good processes and practices, as defined by the team standards;
  • Provide KT (Knowledge Transition) to junior and new members of the team;
  • Understand the business case and benefit and ensure that the implementation being delivered is fit for purpose and capable of delivering against stated benefits;
  • Implement and test technical solutions from user stories to both new and existing systems;
  • Consider the business needs and understand what is valuable about the product deliverable and what might threaten that value;
  • Contribute as required to the business case, requirements and scope;
  • Conduct peer reviews and provide documented constructive feedback;
  • Contribute to user story mapping of requirements and technical design where necessary;
  • Liaise with Test Specialists to ensure testing activities are completed as per best practices and according to Agile standards;
  • Work with the BAs to ensure acceptance criteria is clearly documented and technical implementation meets this acceptance criteria;
  • Recommend efficient processes to manage a code base that may be affected by several concurrent work streams;
  • Provide input to release walkthroughs with the environment managers and teams;
  • Contribute to the team demo at the end of an iteration and present work completed;
  • Work with the Test Specialist to ensure documented acceptance criteria and user stories are testable.


  • 3+ years of total work experience in a relevant IT industry, or 1+ years of experience in technology for an Investment Bank including completion of a graduate program;
  • 1.5+ years of in-depth experience in Microsoft SQL Server, with SQL Server 2008+ experience;
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server database engine;
  • Advanced TSQL and database design skills;
  • Solid experience in core concepts such as indexing, partitioning, error handling and transactions etc;
  • Query optimization and performance tuning skills;
  • Experience working with large databases of more than 1TB size;
  • Experience working with an enterprise environment;
  • Knowledge of and experience in Agile development methodologies (e.g. Scrum) and collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, etc;
  • Good command of English.
